| "Empire House" | |||||
|
The firm is based in the center of Bruges, in the stately house "Huis Empire" or "Empire House". The house was built in 1820 by Joseph-Ghislain van Zuylen van Nyevelt (1761-1824) and was a private house owned by different leading Bruges families until 1955. The house is very typical for the "Empire" - neo classical - style with its two pilasters forming the entrance. Also from the inside, the house has maintained throughout the years its original aspect and is therefor a unique example of neo classical architecture in Bruges. Most striking is the monumental starecase in the entrance hall, with a statute of Demosthenes looking down on everyone entering the entrance hall. At the end of the garden you will discover the tea-house, which looks on the canals of Bruges. The house was declared "monument" by Royal Decree in the early nineties. It was visited in September 1990 by the Prince and Princes of Liège, now King Albert II and Queen Paola from Belgium. The house offers a unique atmosphere, both for the lawyers working in it, as for the clients. Alltough the house managed to remain entirely authentic, it also houses a modern law-office, with state of the art equipment. |
